Man, 64, dies after horror fall from church building where he was working

A 64-year-old man has died after falling from a church building while he was working.

He was at St Nicholas Church in the Green in Birmingham when the accident happened at around 11.25am today.

The emergency services were called but despite their best efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

West Midlands Police cordoned off the scene and a police incident support unit was set up.

The Health and Safety Executive has been informed.

A force spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a man falling while working on a church in Pershore Road South, Kings Norton, at around 11.30am today (13 November).

“A 64-year-old man from Birmingham was sadly pronounced dead at the scene and his family have been informed.

“The Health and Safety Executive have been informed and enquiries are continuing.”

A spokesman from West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports of a patient who had fallen near to Pershore Road South at 11.25am.

“Two ambulances, a paramedic officer, a MERIT Trauma Doctor and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford were sent to the scene.

“On arrival we discovered one patient, a man, who had fallen from height.

“He was found to have suffered serious injuries and ambulance staff immediately began administering advanced life support.

“Unfortunately, despite their best efforts it became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”
